In Loving Memory ~
John (Jack) Maier passed away suddenly on November 7, 2022 at the age of 91. He was surrounded by his family in his final hours.
He is survived by Cora Mae his wife of 71 years, Lee Maier of Ottawa, ON, Mike Maier of Lethbridge, AB, Stephen Maier of Courtney, BC, his daughter, Sue Maier of Lethbridge, AB and his brother Dennis Maier of Edmonton, AB.
He is predeceased by their Son, Lyle Gene, his parents,John and Kate Maier, and sisters Anne and Kathleen.
His 9 grandchildren and 13 great children will miss him very much.
Jack was born in Medicine Hat, Alberta on December 6, 1930. He grew up on a farm in Medicine Hat area.
He joined the military in 1957, and served 28 years. During this time he was sent to multiple bases across Canada. His favourite posting was the 10 years he spent in Germany.
Jack's passions were his wife Cora Mae and children, music, self educating himself, creating (working steam engine, telescopes, furniture, and many other hobbies), and puttering in his back yard.
He was very involved in his community, especially the senior centre in the last years. He volunteered over the years with Hospital Auxiliary (the Thrift Store), Meals on Wheels, and Senior Centre. He also was always there for anyone who needed help, especially amongst the seniors of Ladysmith.
He was a man who loved to experience the world, he was an adventurer at heart. He was part of a musical group with his wife Cora Mae called the Over the Hill Gang. They would travel to all the assisted living and nursing homes in the greater area to entertain.
Jack was a true renaissance man who will be loved and missed by many, especially his family.
