It is with sadness we announce the passing of Karen Girard at her home in Ladysmith, in the care of her family.
Karen is survived by her husband of 54 years, Denis, her son Terry (Kerri-Lynne), her sisters Joan (Les) Johnston, Sally (Jim) Nastrom, her brother Kevin (Lauri) Stark, as well as nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
She was predeceased by her son Todd Michael, and her parents Joseph and Victoria Stark.
Karen graduated from Ladysmith High School and attended University of Victoria and St. Anne's Business College. She worked most of her adult life in Nanaimo, first at Around the World Travel and then at three different accounting firms.
She enjoyed travelling, whether by cruise ship, (Panama Canal), caravan (Australia) or car to their winter home in Mesa, AZ. Karen made new friends wherever she went.
Karen loved music. For many years, she played the organ and piano at St. Mary's Catholic Church and was one of the founding members of Ladysmith Christmas Festival of Choirs. She played flute with the Nanaimo Concert Band, sang in choirs and performed in musicals.
Karen was a member of The Dahlia and Gladiola Club. She enjoyed crafting and volunteering at the Chemainus Theatre and Ladysmith Health Care Auxiliary Thrift Store.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Ladysmith, BC on September 26, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. followed by a reception in the church hall.
Interment will be at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, consider a memorial donation to your favorite charity.
