URTON, KATHLEEN RUTH

December 21, 1910 – March 16, 2007

Kath passed away peacefully in Nanaimo General Hospital. Her sons Don Jr, Norman and Gordon predeceased her. She is survived by her sons Gary (Sue), David (Thelma) and Brian (Debbie) as well as many beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Kath lived a very full, active and rewarding life. While raising a house full of boys (challenging enough on its own), she continued to work daily in the family hardware business in Chemainus.

Always known as a great cook, in 1965 Kath began her own business of catering for private functions. Her reputation for excellence led her to accepting an offer to manage Manana Lodge (now the Page Point Inn) in Ladysmith. After successfully managing the lodge, Kath took on the duties of managing the banquet and restaurant facilities at the Nanaimo Golf & Country Club. It was there that she really found a home and a cherished extended family. She could never say enough good things about the club, its members and its employees. The attachment was mutual and the Nanaimo Golf Club bestowed her the great honor of a Lifetime Membership.

Kath was also very active in the BC Restaurant Association and was again honored with a Lifetime Membership and Achievement Award. She truly loved the many friends she made within that organization.

Kath’s business achievements, along with her love for playing bridge and golf, resulted in a wealth of friends that remained devoted until her passing. She valued these friendships more than anything and said over and over again “I have been truly blessed to have had so many good friends”. Kath will be sadly missed by all of us.

At Kath’s request, there will be no service.
