It is with unimaginable grief we announce the death of Kenneth Roy Brown. Born January 11, 1952 in Calgary, died suddenly in Nanaimo on June 22, 2021. Ken is survived by his wife Catherine Brown (Cathy Boutilier). He is also survived by his brother Keith Brown (Victoria), West Vancouver; sister Kimberly Jakeman (Wayne), West Vancouver; brother Kirk Brown, Calgary; sister-in-law Daphne Boutilier (Karen Marcus), Los Angeles; brother-in-law Arthur Boutilier (Dale), Yellowknife; and several cousins, nephews, nieces. Ken was predeceased by his father, Neil Brown, his mother Janetta Lyvone Brown (Hehn) and his brother, Kelly Frank Brown.
Ken was president of Bowness High School in Calgary where he played on the football team. He was also President of the Calgary Inter- School Council and, at 18, he was one of the youngest political candidates in Calgary history running as Trustee for the Calgary School Board.
He met Catherine in Banff and after a whirlwind romance, they were married in Cathy's hometown of Halifax in 1973. As a graduate of St. Mary's University he was keenly interested in the world political arena and loved discussing and sharing his political viewpoint.
Ken was outrageously funny, charismatic and had a quick wit. For a big, burly man, he was a softie underneath that gruff exterior. He spent hours making up and laughing at his own jokes.
As a businessman, a person of strong principles and moral integrity, Ken owned and operated with Cathy their successful manufacturing company for 20 years, first in Kelowna and later in Calgary. When they sold their company, they retired to Vancouver Island, Ken's last stand, where he golfed, swam daily and cooked for relaxation often experimenting with herbs. His private backyard was a project he architected with keen interest, spending years cultivating it. Ken lived, loved, laughed, played together, stayed together with his very best bud, Catherine, for over 49 years. We love you and miss you already, Kenny Brown.
Arrangements are being handled by Telford's Cremation Centre on Vancouver Island. A private family gathering is planned.
