Kim Leonard SMITH

September 22, 2006

July 28th, 1956 -

September 22nd, 2006

Kim's Spirit was lifted from the bonds of this earth with his wife and children by his side, where he could forever soak up the rays of the sun he loved so much after a short but brave battle with cancer.

Kim left his place of birth in Springhill, N.S. and moved to Toronto and then onto Banff Alberta where he met the love of his life, Cherie in 1984. Kim and Cherie then moved to Victoria B.C. in 1984 where Kim worked for Budget Rental. On July 9th, 1988 Cherie and Kim were married at Cherie's parents home in Ladysmith, B.C. and in 1989 they finally moved to Ladysmith on the MacDonald homestead and started a family. Kim continued to commute to Victoria for his work until he was hired on at Pacific Produce in Nanaimo as Supervisor where he worked for the last 18 years until the past 4 weeks before passing. His work ethic was undeniable and much appreciated by everyone around him. Kim's hobbies included Body Building, Baseball, Beer, and Plain Potato Chips. Of course his favourite place to be was in Mexico where he could escape the winter and lap up some rays with good friends Ray, Camilla and family. The light of Kim's life was his wife Cherie, daughters Ashley & Kandice, son Ryan, and recent grandson Cameron. He was very close to his Mom Joan and made his last trip to Nova Scotia in July '06 to visit Joan, his daughter and new grandson Cameron. Kim was a strong supporter of Cherie and her hobby of dog showing where he would stay at home to mind the children and the farm. Kim's son Ryan was following his dream of baseball and Kim was right alongside of him encouraging him to be what he wanted to be. Of course, you would also see the white van with Kim at the wheel, sitting in front of the library in Ladysmith waiting for Ashley who is a voracious reader. Kim's only regret was not being able to have his daughter Kandice out to B.C. to visit more often, but was grateful for the trips he made to Nova Scotia. Survived by his loving wife Cherie, daughters Kandice and Ashley, son Ryan and grandson Cameron, mother Joan, sisters Betty (Jim), Diane (Gordon), brothers Richard & Bobby, 'Dad' (Charlie) and 'Mom' (Gin) MacDonald, sister-in-law Laurie (Marcel), brothers-in-law Paul (Laura), Peter (Peggy), Sean (Alana), Shane (Nicky) and numerous nieces and nephews. Kim, Cherie and the children lived on the family farm with Charlie & Gin MacDonald (Cherie's parents) and if you couldn't find Kim, you couldn't find Charlie but you'd hear them nattering at each other cause the board didn't fit quite right, or the wrong nail was being used, or the level was off! Charlie was Kim's "Dad" for the past 22 years and he will be dearly missed

for his sense of humour or his unending devotion to his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, October 1st, 2006 at the Eagles Hall in Ladysmith, B.C. at 1:00 P.M. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society in Kim's name will be gratefully accepted...and remember...

That every year has it's share of tears.

Every now and then it's gotta rain.

We're here for a good time.

Not a long time.

So have a good time.

The sun can't shine every day..
