Lawrence Francis Pruden

Lawrence ‘Larry’ Pruden, 90, died peacefully Wednesday, January 26, with family by his side. He was born in Cochin, Saskatchewan, one of ten children born to Sarah and Henry Pruden. Married to Joyce Wade for nearly 50 years, they had two children, Shaan and Shayne.

A resident of Ladysmith, BC since 1966, Larry was a World War II veteran, having served in the European Theatre as a munitions expert in D Squadron, 1st Armoured Car Regiment, Royal Canadian Dragoons. While in the Army, he was an avid boxer. After moving from the Prairies to the Island, Larry held a variety of occupations including bartender, machine operator, boomman and RCMP guard. After he retired, he enjoyed hunting and fishing, a good round of golf and established himself as a premier smoker of salmon and other wildlife. He was also very active with the Legion and Eagles in Ladysmith.

He is survived by his wife Joyce of Ladysmith, daughter Shaan (Stefan Schaefer) of San Jose, CA, son Shayne (Mary Aguirre) of Whiterock, BC, nieces Jan McIntyre of Nanaimo, BC, Jackie Harris of Lloydminster, AB, nephew George Pruden of Victoria, BC and 76 additional nieces and nephews. He will be remembered fondly and missed by many.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.

A Celebration of Life is being held at 1pm on Friday, February 4th at the Eagles Hall in Ladysmith, B.C. (921 First Avenue.)
