Leslie George MARTYN

August 5, 2006

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Leslie George Martyn, December 11, 1927 - August 5, 2006. Les was predeceased by his parents George & Mary Martyn, his only brother Ron Martyn and mother-in-law Myrtle Southwood. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 54 years Lavonne, sons Rob (Faye), Kim (Linda), Dad’s pride and joy, his four grandchildren: Ryan, Curtis, Carla & Amy Martyn. Sister-in-law Lavonne Martyn of Nanaimo, brother-in-law Bob (Joyce) Southwood of Temple, Texas and many cousins, nieces & nephews.

Les was born and raised in Ladysmith. As a teenager Les was a good athlete, winning the provincial softball championship in 1946. As a young man he set off to Alberta where he met & married Lavonne. They arrived back in Ladysmith with a new baby, another soon to follow, and lived here for the remainder of their lives. Les was always active with his boys coaching baseball & soccer. He was a devoted family man, and provided a wonderful upbringing for his family.

Les worked at Chemainus sawmill for 34 years, and was one of the top sawyers there. After the mill closed and was rebuilt, Les was hired back to run the log haul. Mom & Dad enjoyed almost twenty years of retirement, watching and helping to raise their four grandchildren, who they are so proud of, and gave them much joy. Les was a

honorary member of the Ladysmith Kinsmen and helped to build two parks around Ladysmith. He also volunteered for many years with the Festival of Lights. The people of Colonia Gardens enjoyed seeing him run around on his scooter, talking to everyone up to his last days.

Les was a well respected man to anyone who knew him, always had a smile, and a wonderful sense of humour. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A celebration of life for Les will be held Friday, August 11, 2006 at 1:00 pm., at the Eagles Hall. Please join us. In lieu of flowers, please remember Les by making a donation to a charity of your choice.
