Lila BAIRD

April 6, 2010

BAIRD, Lila Elizabeth

(nee Crowther)

Jan 27, 1921 - April 6, 2010

Lila Baird died peacefully at The Lodge on Fourth in Ladysmith. She was born in Victoria and was very athletic in her youth, winning many awards in track and field. When Lila moved to Chemainus, she worked as a pharmacist assistant for Stewart Clement and her likeness is now a feature on the mural inside the uptown Chemainus Rexall Pharmacy. Many years later, Lila worked in that store for pharmacist Joe Hudak.

Lila was predeceased by her husband George in December of 1998. Survived by her son Ian; sister Eileen Beatty of Victoria, Joan Waterman (Ted) of Victoria; and nephew Wally Beatty (Trish, daughter Jessica).

It is fitting that Lila ended her days in Ladysmith because she had fond childhood memories of spending holidays there at her grandparent's home on Symonds Street.

Lila's family would like to express their thanks to the staff at The Lodge on Fourth for the compassionate care Lila received which allowed her to live out her final months comfortably and contently, enabling her to slip away peacefully in her sleep.

No service by request. If desired, donations in Lila's memory may be made to The Lodge on Fourth, 1127-4th Avenue,Ladysmith, BC V9G 1A6.
