NICHOLLS,

Lorna, 78, passed away peacefully, June 30, 2003, at home with family after a courageous battle with cancer. Born Mary Lorna Moralee, July 1, 1924 in County Durham, Birtley. Lorna was predeceased by her husband, Harry: two sons, Barry and Gerald; two sisters Rose and Ann; and brother Edward. She is survived by her sons, Phil (Laura) and Tony (Elizabeth); five grandchildren, Wes, Amber, Barrie, Brodie and Carleigh-Beth; great grandchild, McKenzie; sister, Margaret Ridgeway of Comox; and brother Terry of Blackpool, England. Lorna was a life member of the Chemainus Legion Branch 191 and a former president of both the Chemainus Legion and the Ladies Auxiliary. She was also a co-founder, along with her son Phil, of the Chemainus Legion Twilight Shuffle, the second oldest continual running event on Vancouver Island. Lorna grew up and went to school in Jersey, Channel Islands and worked in an aircraft factory during Wold War II. She moved to Canada when she was 20 and married Harry. She went on to become a manager in the Duncan Eatons department store until retiring in 1981. Lorna enjoyed the bowling league, bridge, bingo and her jaunts to the casino. Lorna and Harry also entertained a lot at their home in Chemainus. A funeral service was held Friday, July 4, 2003 at 12 noon at St, Joseph’s Church in Chemainus. Prayers were held Thursday, July 3, 2003 at St. Joseph’s. In lieu of flowers donations to cancer research in the memory of Lorna may be made. Special thanks and appreciation to Barbara for her selfless care (words can not do justice), to doctors Battershill, Allan, Olivotto, Pommerville and Mawdsley and to the home support service. “Her spirit and passion for the fight will live on.” Arrangements confidently assigned to Telford’s Mid-Island Memorial Services.
