(Max), 1927-2004

Died in Nanaimo, B.C. on August 14, 2004.

Born in Sudbury, Ontario January 17, 1927.

Fondly remembered by his children: John (Kelly South), Betsy (Andy Puthon), Kathy (Patrick Ford), Bill (Suzi Chick), and his grandchildren: Aimee, Alexander, Gwynne, Maeve, Abigail and Katie. Also remembered by his sister Isabelle Lee, friend and brother-in-law Bill Crossin (Linda May), and his sister-in-law Winn Allan, nephew Laird Allan, and families. Also his former wife Ginger Tafel, also his dear friend Margaret Cully and his dog Lizzie.

Predeceased by his parents Rev. John Maxwell Allan, Rhoda (nee Faris) Allan, his brother Don and Max’s companion Olivia McGarry.

He was a member of the Queen’s York Rangers, he served his country in the Arctic in operation Muscox and later was decorated as a tank commander in the Korean conflict. Max was a graduate of Victoria College at the University of Toronto.

Max was living at his Delta Upsilon Fraternity House when he met and married Ginger Crossin, together they raised four children. He was a Realtor and served as the President of the Guelph Chamber of Commerce, the Colonel John McCrae Birthplace Society and the Kiwanis Club. Max moved west to Calgary and Edmonton in 1978, he met Olivia while Scottish Highland Dancing. They retired to Nanaimo in 1993. Max was an avid sailor, enjoyed walks with his friend Margaret and dog Lizzie, and was active with the R.C.L. and Kiwanis in Nanaimo.

Cremation has taken place and a memorial service was held on Wednesday, August 18, 2004 at 10:00 am in the Unitarian Hall, 595 Townsite Road, Nanaimo, B.C. There will be a service in Ontario later this fall. (No flowers please).
