SIMILA, Margaret Jessie

Born in Ladysmith April 25, 1922 and passed away January 18, 2003 at Cowichan District Hospital. She was predeceased by her husband Sam in 2001; and lovingly remembered by her two daughters Sandy (Leo) Virtanen and Susan (Al Coutts) Simila; her two grandchildren Janine (Troy) Cornett and Jeff Virtanen; her four great-grandchildren Kayla and Marissa Cornett, Brodie and Cole Virtanen; her sister Effie Twa and her brother Andrew (Inez) McKinley and numerous nephews and nieces. She lived in the Diamond area all her life and at one time she and her husband Sam owned the Diamond Store. She worked at the Ladysmith Trading Company for many years and upon her retirement joined the Ladysmith Hospital Auxiliary and enjoyed volunteering at the Thrift Shop and the Hospital Gift Shop. She loved to bake and her cookies and pies were a special treat she often shared with her family. While her health allowed she was an avid 5-pin bowler and champion horseshoe player, winning a Gold Medal in the BC Senior Games. There will be a Celebration of Mom’s life at the Diamond Community Hall on Tuesday, January 21st at one o’clock. For those desiring, donations may be made to the Ladysmith Hospital Auxiliary or to a charity of your choice. Arrangements entrusted to Telfords Mortuary.
