Mary (nee Yurkovich)
Long time resident of Chemainus, passed away at Lion’s Gate Hospital on March 3, 2007. Mary was born in Perusic, Yugoslavia on September 14, 1926 and immigrated to Canada in 1932. Predeceased by her husband Joe, in 1997 and her son Larry in 2002. Mary will be remembered and missed by her son Richard (Denise), daughter Carol Reid (Jim), grandchildren Angela Troutman (Brad), Nicole Reid and Doug Reid (Koryn) and great grandchildren. Over the years, Mary’s contributions to the community include her instrumental re-opening of the Chemainus Movie Theatre, coordination of the first lunch program at the Chemainus High School, her support with High School Athletics, volunteering at the hospital thrift store, as well as her membership with the Kinettes and Pythian Sisters of Chemainus. Funeral arrangements will be held Wednesday, March 7 at 2:00pm at the Sands Funeral home in Duncan. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Mary’s name to the charity of choice.
