of Ladysmith, B.C. passed away peacefully in Ladysmith on June 7, 2006 at the age of 94 years.
She was born August 11, 1911 on a farm near Delisle, Saskatchewan to Alex and Eliza Stevenson. Her family moved to North Central Alberta; and then settled in the Ohaton district. In 1940, she married Reuben Haugen of Meeting Creek, Alberta and moved to BC in 1941 where, after a brief time on James Island, they settled in Brentwood Bay. In 1993 Jean moved to the Baptist apartments on Davis Road, Ladysmith, then in 2002 to LaRosa Gardens assisted living facility. The past two years she lived at Ladysmith Extended Care.
The family is extremely grateful for the conscientious and friendly care provided during Jean’s time in Ladysmith by Home Support, Meals on Wheels, the staff at LaRosa Gardens and especially the superb staff, Nurses, Care Aides, Dr. Bowen-Roberts and Dr. Tony Hatchwell at Ladysmith Hospital Extended Care.
Jean is survived by her daughter Beth (Ton) Dekkers, and grandson Lloyd Dekkers of Brentwood Bay, son Ken (Pat) Haugen of Ladysmith; sister-in-law Helen Leschert of Vancouver; two sisters, Jessie Holt of Carstairs. Alberta, and Dorothy Boman of Ponoka, Alberta, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Jean was predeceased by her husband Reuben in 1988, one brother Charles Stevenson of Camrose, Alberta; three sisters Margaret (infant) of Asquith, Saskatchewan, Winnie of Aldergrove, BC and Florence of Ohaton, Alberta.
A private Interment Service will be held at Royal Oak Burial Park, Victoria, BC, with a Memorial Service for family and friends to be held at Sluggett Memorial Baptist Church, 7008 West Saanich Rd., Brentwood Bay, BC. With Pastor Chris Naylor officiating on Saturday, June 24, 2006 at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Coastal Missions, P.O. Box 77, Chemainus, BC V0R 1K0 or to a charity of choice.
