Muriel attended residential school from age 6 to 15 at Coqualeetza in Chilliwack, B.C. Muriel was the eldest daughter of 6. She married in 1934 and had a daughter Joan, her husband John Geddes passed away in 1942 from T.B. complications. Later Muriel moved to Vancouver and met Tom Barrett and had 2 daughters: Susan and Wendy. Muriel established a home in North Vancouver and her talents as a cook, knitter and seamstress are memorable. Her beautiful garden remains strong and vital. Muriel obtained her hairdressing licence in her 50’s with top marks. She loved working at Woodward’s shoe department until her retirement. She left a legacy to her children, grandchiuldren and great-grandchildren of courage, determination and decency. She continued to teach us valued lessons, even as she aged and needed the special support of the Margaret Fulton Centre in North Vancouver and the Chemainus Health Care Centre. Private family service will be held in North Vancouver. To the Doctor’s and staff of the Chemainus Health Care Centre, a special thanks for your care and attention to our mother Muriel Geddes, for all your kind words and day to day hands on work did not go unnoticed or unappreciated. Over the past 3 years it was consoling to see how the staff got to know our mother and appreciate her spirit. “Respectfully the family”
