June 24, 2007

AINSWORTH, (Mutrie)

(Douglas) Winifred.

"WIN" born Winifred Jones. May 14, 1915, the daughter of Samuel and Maud Jones died peacefully on June 24th, 2007. Her final days were filled with her family and new friends at Wingview, Ladysmith. Born in Manchester, England, the fourth of five children, she worked as a lab assistant for J. Robertson & Sons Ltd and as a policewoman during World War II. She married Francis (Frank) Douglas on January 1, 1941 and emigrated to Canada in 1952. Living briefly on Quadra Island, the family settled in Campbell River, BC. Raising three children, win was active in the community, working as a waitress, running a kindergarten, performing in local theatre and eventually beginning a long and rewarding career as a REALTOR.

After Frank's death in 1971, Win moved to Victoria and subsequently became a member of the Victoria Real Estate Board, continuing her outstanding customer service until she retired in 1988. A committed traveler, she returned to England many times and had homes in Florida and on Maui.

Predeceased by three husbands, Francis in 1971, Ralph 'Doc' Mutrie in 1996 and Peter Ainsworth in 2005, Win is survived by her children Martyn Douglas (Mary) of Comox, BC, Rowena Rathlef (Rob) of Ladysmith, BC, John Douglas (Donna) of Port Alberni, BC and grandchildren, Sarah, Janine, David, Georgia and Charlie who will remember her always as Tutu or Grandma Bubbles.

Special thanks from the family to Mary and Ivan, proud and the devoted staff of Wingview for making Win's time with them full of laughter and care.
