November 25, 1933 – July 30, 2020
It is with great sadness that the family is announcing the passing of Norman Hugh Hooper in the early morning of July 30th. He passed away peacefully in his sleep with his wife, Pam, at his side.
He is survived by his loving family, including his wife Pamela of 65 years, and his children: David (Louisa), Linda (Bob), Michael (Kathy), Ivan (Susanne), Donna (Darren), and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. He is also survived by his brothers and sisters: Margaret, Keith, Lorna, David, Vivien, Jean, and Ted.
Norm was born in Barrhead, Alberta, on November 25, 1933 to Hugh and Nellie Hooper (predeceased 1941). He was raised by Hugh and stepmother (Lockie) in Barrhead and Edmonton. Norm became a Game Warden at the Jasper National Park in 1950; at the time, this work was done on horseback.
Norm met and married his “English wife”, Pam, in Victoria July of 1955. During the next 6 years they spent time within the BC park service, working throughout BC.
By 1961, Norm started his career in construction in Victoria, where he and Pam had 5 children. The family of seven moved to a farm on Cedar road in 1966. Norm and his brother, Keith, started K&N construction and over the next 20 years built numerous homes and commercial buildings in Ladysmith and Nanaimo. Following the early 80’s, they moved off the farm and built several homes in Cinnabar Valley. Norm enjoyed working with a great team at Robinson Construction until his retirement in 1996. Subsequently, they spent many years camping, hunting, and fishing with the RV, as well as travelling the world.
Norm worked hard through the years to provide a solid foundation for his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. His greatest legacy will always be a happy and productive family. Thank-you Dad for everything you did for us. Love you always.
The family would also like to thank the Home Care Nursing Team for their excellent support during his final days. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to the Cancer Research Institute.

“Take me to the mountains, for that’s where I belong. Just birds and trees, And wind and leaves, And silence as my song.”
