Olavi Leopold
Passed away June 13, 2010. He was born in Andrea, Finland January 7th, 1928. He was a 3 time Victoria and one time Island Chess Champion and was third in the BC open Chess Championship.
Olli’s love of sports led him to become a track and field coach in Finland and then in Victoria and he was also a hockey coach in Finland.
After retiring to Ladysmith he became involved in bowling, golfing and playing in the Legion Band.
Olavi was predeceased by his father, mother and sister Anja, his grandson Mathew; also his mother and father-in-law, and brothers-in-law Eero and Eino. Olavi is survived by his wife Sirkka; sons Peter (Shelley) and John; daughter Nina (Lyle); brother-in-law Esko (Maija and Mika); nephews Earle and Eric; sister-in-law Anneli and family; grandchildren Jason, Daniel, Sean (Jessie), Dian, Kate; and great-granddaughters Ivy and Jami. Also sisters Marja Leena, and Maija; and their children in Sweden.
He will be missed greatly by his family and friends. Thanks to all the staff at the Chemainus Health Care Centre for their excellent care.
There will be no memorial service at Ollie’s request.
