Patrick Joseph LEWIS

September 27, 2006

Age 87, living the reminder of his days in Ladysmith BC, passed away September 27, 2006 in the Cowichan District Hospital after a battle with pneumonia. Born on March 16, 1919 in Neguac, New Brunswick, Pat was plucked out of school at the young age of 13 to help his father Thomas manage Windsor Fisher Canning Factories. A Navy Veteran, a Fisheries Officer, a Piscean, he loved the ocean. As a craftsman and boat builder he came to British Columbia after the War to work carpentry with his brother Howard and to build the Sinaway; a 52-foot cabin cruiser that he used in his work for the Department of Fisheries. Selling the Sinaway to settle down with his new wife Phyllis (nee Bossé) on dry land in Victoria, BC, he lived there 25 happy years. Fishing being a primary hobby, Pat kept wooden boats in his life and spent many a days fishing and touring the Saanich Inlet, Gulf and San Juan Islands. Downsizing, he and Phyllis moved to Duncan for their retirement years. Pat later moved to Ladysmith for the last years of his life to be closer to his daughter and grandchildren. He is predeceased by his wife Phyllis of Duncan BC, and stepson Richard Lawson of Lake Cowichan BC, and sister Elizabeth MacGillvary of Montreal PQ. Pat is survived by daughters Carol (Schiavitti) of Montreal PQ, Patti-Jo (Lewis) Halliday, her husband Leo, grandchildren James and Amy Halliday, and great-granddaughter Freya Simpson-Halliday of Ladysmith BC; stepsons Reginald and Ronald Lawson (wife Bonnie) of Sidney and Victoria; and nephew Hilly Lewis of Sooke BC; sisters Georgina (Lowry) of Montreal PQ and Irene (Harrod) of Abbotsford BC. A graveside memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 03rd at 1:00 pm at Hatley Memorial Gardens on Sooke Road in Victoria BC. In lieu of flowers, donations made to one of the following charities would be greatly appreciated: The Heart and Stroke Foundation, The BC Cancer Society and the Rick Hansen Society for Spinal Cord Research.
