In loving memory ~
Pat was born in Bristol, England to Frank and Kathleen Hiley. The family moved to Gabriola Island in 1947 where Pat lived until he went to work for the Coast Guard on the Lighthouse Tender "Estevan". From there he worked for Beban Logging driving trucks in the Kingcome Inlet area. Then he went to Chemainus Towing, working on the tugboats and as a Marine Mechanic and Shop Foreman. He moved to Port Alberni and for three years he was Shop Foreman For Pacific Towing. From there he returned to Chemainus Towing. Eventually Pat started his own business, Island Mariners Maintenance and operated it for over 25 years. He absolutely loved his work and apprenticed a couple of good mechanics.
As a hobby, Pat enjoyed working on racing cars and loved boats.
Upon retiring, Pat and Doll RV'd to Southern California, boon docking and going as far south as San Carlos, Mexico; meeting many new friends along the way. Pat had two sons, Ron Grychuck and Dan Hiley by his first wife. He later married Doll and adopted her son Tony.
He leaves to mourn his wife of 53 years, Dolly; sons Ron and Tony, sisters Judy and Sue (Bruce), 8 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life was held on October 2nd.
