It is with great sadness that the children of Richard Patrick Hartnett announce his death on February 12, 2005. Pat grew up in Valpraiso, having been born in Tisdale SK (April 2, 1936). The start of his career in Unity, in the retail grocery business, was also notable as the place where he met his future wife, teacher June Yourex, whom he married in Success, 1958. Followed shortly by a move to Saskatoon where the first of their five children (Kelly) arrived. Edmonton offered a change to the Federated Co-op as well as the next three of their children being born: Lori Ann, Cathy and David. The youngest of the five, Patrick, born after a move to to Red Deer. A mid-winter drive through a blizzard led to a new job in Altona, MB, 1968. The family spent eleven years in Altona developing many dear friends and creating many fond memories. 1979 brought a move to Winnipeg where he spent the next 24 years. He took great pleasure in farming, spending many enjoyable days as retreat and recreation in Altona and later in Gladstone MB. Settling finally in Ladysmith, BC. The West Coast proved very attractive, both for its climate as well as the wonderful social atmosphere. Pat was predeceased by his wife June Rose (1992), his parents William James and Blanche E. Orchard, brother Rae and sister Marjorie Horosko. Left to mourn are: Kelly Hartnett in Smithers BC, Lori Hartnett, in Winnipeg, Cathy (Joe) Smullen in Willipeg, David (Diane) Harnett in Smithers, BC, Patrick C. Hartnett in Vancouver, BC. Four grandchildren: Nathan and Adam Hartnett, Eileen and Caitlin Smullen, brother Gerald, sister Lorna Jwazsko, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday the 16th of February at St. Mary’s in Ladysmith, BC, with internment in Winnipeg at Glen Lawn Cemetary., In lieu of flowers a donation to the Cancer Society would be appreciated.
