Master Mariner Peter P. Ainsworth died December 6, 2005 in Nanaimo Regional Hospital after a brief illness. Born in Blackburn, England, Peter joined the British Merchant Navy at age 17 and earned his Master Mariner Certificate in 1954. His subsequent career included CP Ships and the Canadian Hydrographic Service. From 1956 until 1982 he was employed by the airline division of Canadian Pacific at airports in Portugal, Alaska and Japan. In 1982 he left CP to manage the Hamilton International Airport in Ontario until his retirement. He moved to Vancouver Island, settling in Ladysmith, BC where he resided until his death. His wife Winifred Ainsworth of Ladysmith and sister Joy Rutherford of the Isle of Man, England, survive Peter. His extended families and friends, particularly those who enjoyed his informal career recollections, will miss Peter. No service by request.
