Ray passed away from cancer on Christmas Eve morning, surrounded by his loving family.
Ray was born in Vancouver, the eldest son of Chuck and Elaine Irving (deceased 1988/1998), moving to Ladysmith at the age of 11. He made Ladysmith his home for the next 60 years before relocating to Campbell River in April 2024 to be near his son and family.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 48 years, Shari; son Kristopher (Diane), granddaughter Emilia, daughter Brianne, brothers Pat (Val) and David, brothers-in-laws Paul (Carol) and Terry (Bonnie) Kellogg.
Ray worked as a supervisor at Queen's Printer in Victoria, making the long commute for 26 years, before retiring in 2014. Prior to that he worked in printing at the Ladysmith Chronicle and at Chemainus Sawmill. He enjoyed a second career as a travel consultant and loved to go on cruises, with his favorite destinations being Alaska and the Maritimes.
In his younger years Ray was an outstanding bowler, he was a Master bowler and coached youth bowling. He loved sports, especially baseball, and his Yankees. He coached youth baseball for many years and was a long-time president of Ladysmith Baseball Association.
