January 13, 2014

HANKEY, Reginald Emil (Reg)

It is with sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Reg Hankey on January 13, 2014.

Reg was born on April 10th, 1932 in Chemainus and after living in Ladysmith for a few years his family moved to Chemainus. The house on Chemainus Rd. that he grew up in remained his home for almost his entire life. He met Dot and they were married in 1952. A few years later, when his father was moving, Reg bought the house and he and Dot raised their boys there.

Reg worked as a longshoreman for many years and became a foreman for Canadian Stevedoring. He enjoyed his job and was well liked and respected by everyone working on the waterfront. Reg retired in 1995.

Reg was predeceased last year by Dot, his wife of 60 years. He will be greatly missed by his children Ken (Laura), Tom (Kris), Dave (Louise) and Don. Reg leaves 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; Erika (Chris and their daughter Allison), Sara (Nick and their daughter Millie-anne), Liz (Kyle and their son Connor), Bryan and Scott. He also leaves his sister Doris Grande of Parksville. He will be missed by many other relatives and friends.

Reg enjoyed hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He loved a good game of crib or bridge, a good joke and a good hockey game.

An informal tea will be held on Saturday, February 1st, 2014 from 12 - 3 p.m. at the Chemainus Senior Drop in Centre, 9824 Willow Street, Chemainus, BC. Flowers are gratefully declined, donations may be made in Reg’s memory to The Clements Centre Society, 5856 Clements Street, Duncan, BC.
