HOGGARD,

Roy Michael

7 December 1930 –

28 November 2010

An ethical man of the highest integrity, Roy’s life encompassed several careers including farming, a stint in the RCMP, finance, and heavy machinery sales, in locations as diverse as Prince Rupert, the Queen Charlotte Islands, Regina, Saskatoon, Burnaby and, more recently, Ladysmith, BC, where he spent his retirement. Sailing, hiking, motor sports, gardening, and woodworking were all interests but, above all, he was devoted to his family.

Born in London, England, his life ended peacefully in Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit, where he was mercifully freed of pain after a long, nobly fought battle against prostate cancer. His loving spouse, Gillian Minifie Murad, survives him, as do his son Bruce (Barbara), daughter Patricia McGregor (Neil), and the children of his second wife, James (Susan), Garth (Rebecca), and Elizabeth Zaleschuk, to all of whom he was a loving and concerned “Dad”. Roy was proud and adoring grandfather of Michelle and Lisa Hoggard and Hunter and Carter McGregor; dear brother of Margaret Mullins, Broadway, UK. Predeceased by his wives Bernice and Irene, and his son, Tom Zaleschuk.

Roy’s zest for life and his good humour will be remembered at a Celebration of Life for family and friends in Ladysmith, BC, in February 2011 (exact date and location to be announced). Please honour Roy’s memory by donating generously to BC Cancer Foundation, 2410 Lee Avenue, Victoria, BC, V8R 6V5; Prostate Cancer Canada, 145 Front Street E, Toronto, ON, M5A 1E3; or Palliative Care Unit, Nanaimo General Hospital.
