SADIE MURRAY passes at 90.
Sadie (Sarah Jane) Murray (nee Arbuthnot) aged 90, passed away in her sleep May 23, 2004 in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, B.C.
Born January 29, 1914 in South Wellington, Nanaimo, B.C., Sadie had a full, rewarding life. After living in South Wellington for a period of time, her family moved to Cedar.
Sadie moved to Chemainus with her family in 1925 where she met and later married Hap (Walter) Murray. They had two sons, Brian and Bob, both born in Chemainus.
In 1943 the Hap Murray family moved to Port Alberni where Hap was the Master Mechanic at Alberni Pacific Lumber Company’s logging camp number one.
Nine years later, the logging camp closed and the Murray family returned to Chemainus where Hap was master mechanic at the shop at Copper Canyon.
Sadie and Hap built a home on Walker Avenue in Ladysmith. After Hap’s passing in 1995. Sadie stayed on in their home until 2003 when she moved to Victoria.
She is survived by her brother Jim (Marguerite of Ladysmith; her sons Bob of Vancouver; and Brian (Eleanor) of Victoria, B.C.; granddaughter Elaine Dick (Jody) of Edmonton, Alberta; granddaughter Patricia Schwindt (Rob) of Cold Lake, Alberta; and granddaughter Kathryn Williams (Bob) of Mill Bay, B.C.; great granddaughters Brianna Dick and Natasha Williams; great grandsons Bobby Dick and Brandon Williams.
Sadie requested cremation followed by interment together with Hap and herself with her mother, Margaret Arbuthnot, in the Chemainus Cemetery.
A memorial service will be held in Nanaimo that will include the following selections: “Amazing Grace”, “Abide with Me”, and “Rock of Ages”.
Family and friends are invited to the memorial service for Sadie at Nanaimo First Memorial Funeral Services, 1720 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, B.C., Saturday June 5 starting at 1 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to The Alzheimer’s Society or The Heart and Stroke Foundation.
