It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Stanley Christie, of Ladysmith (formerly of Crofton), after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. Stan was predeceased by is parents, Stan and Evelyn and his brother Brian. Stan was born on May 12, 1937 in Aberdeen, Scotland. He immigrated to Canada with his parents and brothers in 1952 settling in Calgary. Stan later moved to Crofton where he raised his family. Those who knew Stan were aware of his fondness for the game of golf. Especially after getting 2 hole-in-one on no. 8 in Ladysmith! Stan is survived by his loving wife Irene, his brother David (Renate) of Rainy Bay, and his children; Stanley Stephen (Donna) Christie of Crofton, Kathy (Peter) Polet of Winnipeg, Alastair (Joanne) Christie of Crofton, Veronica (Scott) Fletcher of Calgary, Robert (Judee) Plourde of Calgary, Denise (Bob) Bigelow of Ladysmith and Richard (Roxane) Plourde of Ladysmith.
Stan also leaves 17 grandchildren; Joe and Rosie Christie, Kenny, Kelly and Kandice Polet, April and Amber Christie, Sasha, Melanie and Crystal Fletcher, Krysta, Rachel and Jacob Plourde, Brayenna and David Bigelow, Cassandra and Carly Plourde, and 5 great- grandchildren; Austin Polet, Nicholas, Dameon and Ivory Fletcher, and Austin Plourde.
A Memorial Service will be held at the Chemainus Anglican Church on Thursday, July 11, 2002 at 1:00 p.m.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the wonderful staff at Ladysmith General Hospital, to Francoise and Connie, and to Stan’s friends at the Ladysmith Golf Club. We will all miss him.
The family has asked, that in lieu of flowers, doantions be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
