MCINTYRE, VERA DOREEN professionally known as VERA JOHNSON

Vera died peacefully in the company of her family at the Chemainus Health Care Centre on November 9, 2007 at the age of 87. She was born in Birmingham, England, grew up in Regina, Saskatchewan and lived much of her life in Vancouver. Her last years were spent on Vancouver Island. In 1966 Vera became a professional folk-singer and songwriter, pursuing this career for 20 years. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a true zest for life both of which are reflected in her songs. Vera is now considered an icon in Canadian Folk Music circles.

Vera was predeceased by sisters Marjorie Patterson and Ruth Watt and by brother Bill Johnson. She is survived by daughters: Sandy (Larry) Widen, Moira (Walt) Foster, Alison (Wayne Brown) MacKenzie; her sister Mollie (Don) Walls; grandchildren Kirsten Widen, Drew (Sherry) Widen, Mike (Torrie Kicks) Callihoo, Glen (Christine) Callihoo, Simone (Travis) Wood, Monique (Mike) Paulson; fourteen great-grandchildren and many beloved nieces and nephews.

A celebration of Vera’s life will be held on Sunday, November 25, 2007 at 1:30 pm at the Eagles Hall, 921 First Avenue, Ladysmith, B.C. Memorial donations may be made to the Unitarian Service Committee. Arrangements by Telford’s Mid-Island Memorial Services 245-5553.
