November 10, 1940 - March 20, 2025
With great sadness, we announce the passing of Walter James Foster on March 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Walt faced his illness with quiet strength and resilience. Something he showed throughout his entire life
As a teenager, Walt immigrated from Germany to Bralorne, British Columbia. After graduating high school, he attended the University of British Columbia, where he earned his teaching degree and was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. He and his beloved wife, Moira, made their home in Ladysmith. Walt taught Social Studies for many years in School District 68 primarily at Ladysmith Secondary School and later at John Barsby and NDSS. In retirement, Walt and Moira traveled extensively and cherished their time at their second home in the Palm Springs area.
Walt was predeceased by his parents, August and Benita, his brother, Karl, and his loyal canine companion, Thor. He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 59 years, Moira; their daughters, Simone (Travis) and Monique (Michael); and his four cherished granddaughters, Anna, Ruth, Peyton, and Reese.
Walt had a deep love for animals. He enjoyed sitting by the fire with a good book, doing countless word searches, a glass of Sierra Nevada beer, a proper shave, making (and checking off) his endless lists, and soaking up the desert heat.
"Flowers may bloom only once a year, but love lasts a lifetime."
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to the SPCA in Walt's memory. As per his wishes, there will be no service.
