A longtime Saltair resident passed away peacefully in Nanaimo Regional General Hospital with his family at his side. Predeceased by his wife Bertha Emily (Matikka) in 1969, his paents Albert (Abe) and Margaret (Maggie), brothers Wesley, Clarence, and sister Elizabeth.
He is survived by three children, Arthur (Gail) of Nanaimo, Shirley (Ken) Cassie of Nanaimo, and Judy (John) Holmes of Saltair. He is survived by 6 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren, his sister Beatrice Skundberg of Big Beaver Saskatchewan, plus many nieces, nephews and relatives as well as many friends.
Born in Ogema Saskatchewan, Dad travelled the country until he married in 1939. a few years and three children later, Dad settled in Saltair in 1947 and took employment with McMillan Bloedel Ltd., where he worked until retirement.
Dad enjoyed gardening, travel, square dancing, bowling and his family. Dad it is with great sadness that we say goodbye. We will miss him dearly. Love you.
He was also a founding member of the Chemainus Seniors Drop-in Centre. Canvassed for cancer for more than 25 years. Special thanks to Dr. Weisenburger, Dr. Alscher and the nurses on the 3rd floor at Nanaimo Regional Hospital.

A Funeral Service for Bill will be held at Sands Funeral Chapel, #1 New Castle Ave., Nanaimo on Wednesday, October 19, 2005 at 11:00 am followed by burial at Cedar Valley Memorial Gardens.
