BOOTH, William (Bill)

March 8, 1925 – Feb 21, 2013

Bill went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on Thursday, Feb 21st at the age of 87. Surviving him with love are his wife of 64 years Myra (nee Neil); four children, John, Robert, Melanie Lutz (Rick) and David (Arlene); six grandchildren, Sarah Flood (Michael), Shayna Lutz, Kelsey Lutz, Brandon Booth, Justin Booth and Andrea Booth; two great-grandchildren, Ezra Lutz and Emily Flood. He will be greatly missed by his sisters, Norma Clark, Florence Manderson (Barkley); and his brother Doug Booth and their families. He was predeceased by his parents, William and Elizabeth Booth, and his brother-in-law Gilbert Clark.

Bill was born in New Westminster and joined the Merchant Marines at age 18 and served as a Marine Radio Officer during the war seeing many parts of the world during his tour of duty and receiving decorations for his service. Bill’s career included hospital administration at Woodlands School and Riverview Hospital and then Director of Government Institutions for the Province of BC. After retiring from government service he worked in Administration and Management at Regent College in Vancouver which he enjoyed immensely. His final retirement was in 1989.

Bill was passionate about his service to his church and other Christian based service organizations. He was on numerous boards from 1960 to 2000. Closest to his heart was his home church, Blue Mountain Baptist Church, Children’s Evangelistic Association which he helped found in 1960, the Fellowship of Evangelical Children’s Workers (former Chairman) and Camp Tulahead (former Chairman) and the Blue Mountain Senior Housing Society.

Bill was steadfast in his belief in God, a man of wisdom, caring and compassion, a great father and counsellor to many people. He was a dedicated husband and cared for his wife for as long as he possibly could. He fought a good fight with cancer over the last year in a way that demonstrated his calm resolve and amazing endurance. He never once complained during his battle. He was comforted through his prayer and bible reading and time with friends and family.

The family would like to thank all those that provided care for Bill over the last year and especially over the last two week period at the Nanaimo Hospital and Palliative Care Unit.

A memorial service will be held in Ladysmith at the Oceanview Community Church on Saturday, March 9th at 1:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to Compassion Canada and Camp Tulahead would be appreciated.
