The family of Dougall Warren of Ladysmith, BC is heartbroken to announce his peaceful passing on December 15, 2024, at the age of 88 years. He will be sadly missed by not only his family but by all those who knew him.
Dougall is survived by his loving wife, Erma of 58 years, his surviving children: Judy Peterson (Bil Austin), Florence Green (Bryan), Jack Warren (Brenda), Allan Peterson (Adele) and Bonnie Christenson,11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren & many nieces & nephews.
He was predeceased by his son, Craig Christenson.
Dougall was born in Edmonton, AB on Jan 4, 1936, to James & Margaret Brown. He moved to Nanaimo in 1962. In 1966 he and Erma were married. He worked at Harmac until they moved to Ladysmith in Oct 1972 & purchased the Diamond Store. When they sold the Diamond Store, they purchased Norwell Esso in Nanaimo. They operated that garage from 1979 - 1983. After selling Norwell they started Warren's Automotive located on the corner of 1st Ave and Symonds Street, in Ladysmith, which they operated from 1984 to 2002 when they decided to retire.
They enjoyed living aboard their 40 ft yacht the "Chris Mar" for a period of 7 years until they once again became landlubbers. They spent as much time as possible on their yacht, cruising the waters, anchoring out behind Bute, and spending time with friends & family. They made lifelong friends through their boating travels & volunteering with the Ladysmith Maritime Society & Power Squadron.
Dougall's many volunteer accomplishments included:
Commander of Nanaimo Power Squadron 1970-1971 and Commander of Mount Brenton Power Squadron 1977-1978, a Founding Member of the Ladysmith Tall Ships Society July 25, 1985. In July 1991 the Tall Ship Society became the Ladysmith Maritime Society. He was a Life Member of the Canadian Power & Sail Squadron as well as Ladysmith Maritime Society. He also taught the boating maintenance program through the Power Squadron.
The family would like to extend their thanks & appreciation to the Chemainus Health Care Center staff for their care and loving support of Dougall over the past few years.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Chemainus Health Care Center.
