Letter: CVRD's worry about tariffs off the mark

Whatever the CVRD purchases will have zero impact on either economy
letters

The CVRD board should really try to get over themselves. In a recent article in The Citizen the board members discuss buying Canadian in response to the U.S.- Canada trade dispute.

Obviously whatever the CVRD purchases will have zero impact on either economy, doesn’t send a message to anyone and is just virtue signaling.

In addition to this I find it odd the CVRD board didn’t discuss Chinese products since the Chinese government has imposed 100 per cent tariffs on Canadian canola and large tariffs on Canadian seafood products.

CVRD board member Chris Istace thinks purchasing from Amazon is a bad thing because it’s an American-owned company but in fact Amazon employs 46,000 Canadians. So these Canadians don’t deserve a job because they work for a U.S. company?

Perhaps Chris Istace and the other board members should focus on doing their jobs instead of worrying about where the CVRD gets its pencils.
