Letter: DCCs too low

Editor: Poor developers! The increase in development cost charges by Ladysmith council was much too long in coming and, in the end, not enough.Municipalities through North America are facing similar challenges. For decades, taxpayers have been helping finance new developments. There are estimates that the real cost of each lot developed could be as much as $25,000 with taxpayers picking up the difference. And this doesn’t even factor in the long-term costs of maintaining infrastructure such as sewers, roads, etc.It is high time that developers began to pay the true cost of their shenanigans rather than them trying to sell us that Growth Is Good.Mark KeimeleChemainus
