To the editor,
I am a parent caught in the midst of the current mental health and drug crisis that our society is currently facing.
My adult child has been in and out of hospital for the past year in what seems like a revolving door of him needing help but our current system being so dysfunctional and outdated that the help he truly needs is not available. He’s in hospital one day, and released to the streets the next. I’m tired of the government having the money to spend on free drugs and free housing, but not having the money or desire to open and staff institutions where my kid can truly get help. My kid does not need free drugs. Drugs are what’s killing him. He’s currently so far gone that he is unable to know that he even needs help.
Our current government is for saving money, not saving lives.
I feel like it’s only a matter of time before it’s too late.
