Woodstove was vital to surviving windstorm power outage
The severe windstorm of Dec. 20 and its resulting extensive power outages has certainly been a lesson in preparedness to all of us. We had no power, phones or running water for over nine days and, without our trusty, efficient woodstove in the basement, we couldn’t have coped.
Even though we support most clean air initiatives and have invested in an energy saving heat pump system, it doesn’t run without electricity! Our woodstove kept us warn, heated the rainwater we collected for washing ourselves and our dishes and provided and excellent way to cook our meals. All this was especially important because the issues were so widespread that it took Hydro crews a long time get around to us. Many thanks to all of those hard working linemen, and a solid “yes” vote for North Cowichan continuing to allow the use of woodstoves.
