Some Cuban baseball players brought to the Cowichan Valley again this year through the Cuban-Vancouver Island Baseball Journey Society are extending their stay.

A total of nine players are remaining in the area until Aug. 30, prompting Rick Shay to form a team to play exhibition games with other men’s teams all over the Island.

“It was kind of planned for four or five of them,” said Shay. “A couple of others wanted to stay.”

It will be a blended team to include Ladysmith, Chemainus, Duncan and Lake Cowichan players.

“Some of them are with the (Ladysmith) Pilots and some are with the (Chemainus) Brewers,” Shay indicated. “They’ll just get some extra games all over the place.”

Watch for details on game locations posted on the Society’s Facebook page.
