Former Cowichan Rugby Football Club junior star Doug Fraser became the second Piggies graduate to sign on with Major League Rugby when he joined Austin Elite last month.

Fraser grew up in Ladysmith and played junior and senior rugby with Cowichan during his high school years before playing for the University of Victoria and then Castaway Wanderers. He earned his first three caps with the Canadian national men’s team last spring.

The 26-year-old centre was also part of the Canadian team that attended the Rugby World Cup Repechage tournament in France last fall, although he didn’t see action in any games.

Another Piggies product, Duncan’s own George Barton, played last season with the Seattle Seawolves, who have signed Shawnigan Lake School graduate Djustice Sears-Duru for the 2019 season. Another Shawnigan grad, Guiseppe du Toit, has joined the expansion Toronto Arrows for 2019.
