It was a good fall for the Ladysmith Steelers.

On Tuesday, the youth football club will start discovering if it will be the same type of spring.

Registration is currently underway for the club, which is coming off an undefeated regular fall season and looking to keep that streak alive.

“The Ladysmith Steelers have a foundation built in the Ladysmith community,” club spokesperson Jennifer Laver said. “The team has been running for eight years and in that time nearly 700, 8- to 13-year-old boys and girls have been part of one of the two league teams.

“The coaches and players tie in a love for football, with teamwork, sportsmanship and safe contact to make an amazing group of youth both on and off the field.”

On Feb. 3, Jim Delcourt, President of the Ladysmith Kinsmen, presented the club with a $2,000 donation towards new gear for the 40-plus kids enrolled in the league. The team was participating in its annual Super Bowl spring season opener to honor club founder, Demetreos Bourodemos.

In the past year, the LSFC board and parents have made tremendous efforts to outfit the entire team with new uniforms and field gear. That has been made possible through generous donations, like that of the Kinsmen, and club fundraising efforts. To date the LSFC have raised almost $30,000.

Practices start February 19, at 5:30 p.m., running every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. The game season will commence at the end of March and run until June.
