The Nanaimo Timbermen will need to brace for a storm in the Western Lacrosse Association finals.

The T-men will play the Langley Thunder in the WLA finals after the Thunder defeated the Victoria Shamrocks in the semifinals, four games to two, following a Game 6 victory Sunday, Aug. 14. Nanaimo had previously advanced by sweeping the Coquitlam Adanacs two days earlier.

The Thunder finished first during the WLA’s regular season and won the season series against the T-men.

Langley was a high-scoring group in the semifinals, led by Dane Dobbie and Curtis Dickson who scored 37 points and 33 points, respectively, in the series against the Shamrocks.

Nanaimo’s top scorer in the semis was Zach Manns, who scored 17 points.

The Timbermen, following their first-round series win, didn’t express a strong preference about which opponent they’d like to face.

“We’re ready for anyone. We know it’s going to be a battle … lacrosse is always a battle,” said Tewanee Joseph, T-men coach.

He said his team would rest its bodies and minds to try to be healthy and ready for the next round.

GAME ON … The Thunder host Game 1 on Friday, Aug. 19, at 7 p.m. at the Langley Events Centre. Game 2 is Sunday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. at Frank Crane Arena.
