Forrest Field is open again.

The Town of Ladysmith reopened Forrest Field earlier this week following a brief closure due to the impacts the weather was having on the playing surface.

Parks, Recreation and Culture notified residents on Jan. 10 that the field at Fourth Avenue and Jim Cram Drive wasn’t available for use.

It reopened on Wednesday and local residents had a couple of days of beautiful weather to enjoy outside.

Director Clayton Postings told the Chronicle in an email last week that the temperatures in addition to the melting snow was the cause of the disruption.

”The temperatures have dipped again resulting in freezing of the rubber crumb (used to cushion the playing surface),” Postings said.

“Also the drainage around the field has frozen up and this is causing it to be a challenge for the water to be diverted off the field.”
