A Ladysmith establishment will be hosting an intimate concert featuring a touring singer-songwriter.

Shawna Caspi of Toronto will play a dinner show at In the Beantime Café on Sunday, April 14, as part of the Song Shelter house concert series.

According to a release, the concert series has tried for several years to attract Caspi to Ladysmith, and now is the right time with the folk artist on the road supporting her latest album, Hurricane Coming.

“Audiences will feel comforted in the welcoming space that Shawna creates, and be engaged in songs that resonate with stories that are relatable, but told in new and unexpected ways, with lyrics that are poetic and meaningful, wrapped around intricate fingerstyle guitar accompaniment,” noted the release. “This is music that makes an authentic human connection, that conveys a sense of closeness, of being understood, of feeling less alone.”

Hurricane Coming, which was nominated for a Canadian Folk Music Award, is described as a collection of “raw, deeply personal songs set against a backdrop of colourful cinematic soundscapes.”

Dinner reservations start at 5 p.m. and the concert starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $20 and can be purchased in person at the venue or by e-mailing songshelter@gmail.com.
