An Easter ‘art bomb’ has hit downtown Ladysmith. It all happened on Friday, March 31, when students and teachers from École North Oyster hung Easter egg greetings from the trees downtown.

The Ladysmith and District Arts Council’s art bombing project is an opportunity for different schools in the area to take on a specific holiday season and make up the art for it and then string their art downtown.

The aim of the program, according to arts council president Kathy Holmes, is to get young people involved in art.

“We want to bring art out into the community,” she said. “It’s amazing how excited the kids get, not just in hanging their pieces downtown, but in creating their own art and then having the opportunity of seeing it displayed in public.”

The arts council offers a variety of programs for members of the public including youth and adult programs and art shows. From April 14-16, more than a dozen artists will be featured in the annual Spring Art Tour, where members of the public can view home art studios around Ladysmith and Chemainus.
