Ladysmith Secondary School’s improv team has only a few weeks to try to fundraise for a trip to nationals, but they’re used to quick thinking and quick acting.

The high school improv theatre group was able to earn a wildcard berth into the Canadian Improv Games in Ottawa from March 27-29.

Instructor Bill Taylor reported that Ladysmith Secondary’s senior team was able to place first in an online wildcard competition against 30 teams from across the country.

The fundraising efforts start Thursday, March 7, with a benefit improv show and silent auction starting at 6:30 p.m. at LSS. Admission is $10.

The team has also set up an online fundraising page at SchoolCashOnline, where a user can select the school and the LSS Improv initiative and receive a tax receipt.

The team is trying to meet a fundraising goal of $16,000 before nationals.

Last year the LSS improv team placed first on Vancouver Island to advance to the Canadian Improv Games, where they placed third

“This year we are in a similar position, and we ask for your support in our goal of competing in Ottawa again this year,” Taylor said.
