A Nanaimo man is in custody after exposing himself to the public twice in the same week, West Shore Shore RCMP say.

The 36-year-old man was most recently arrested March 27 by West Shore RCMP, and he faces several charges related to three separate investigations, including three counts of an indecent act, one count of indecent exposure to a minor and one count of failure to comply with a release order.

The man was found to have an outstanding warrant for a similar offence in Burnaby from Nov. 23, 2023, and failed to attend court.

West Shore RCMP say the first incident was on March 24 at 10:18 a.m. in Colwood. Police had been called to investigate a man committing an indecent act in the 1800-block of Island Highway.

The man had reportedly been exposing himself and it was witnessed by several people, including children.

West Shore RCMP arrested him and he appeared before a judge who granted him release under certain conditions, including remaining clothed and not exposing himself in public.

Three days later, on March 27 just before 4 p.m., RCMP received a report for an indecent act, which turned out to be the same man. He was under the Six Mile Road bridge in View Royal where he was reportedly exposing himself to a group of young people.

He was located within two hours of the incident and was arrested and held in custody.

“Sexual crimes against youths not only affect the victims but can have lasting effects on the entire community,” said Cst. Andrew Matheson, West Shore RCMP Media Relations Officer.

The man has been remanded in custody and will appear in court on April 2.
