Hound politicians for train alternative
Re: April 4, 2024 editorial, “Rail vision needed”
Unless and until the political arena change their thinking, nothing positive will emerge from this discussion. To run this service (the Dayliner) efficiently it must start its daily run from either end to make people even consider using it. If riders could start from Victoria going north, and likewise people from the northern terminus could go south and pass by in the middle, only a couple of sidings would be required near the mid-point. The return journey being made later in the day. In this way freight could again be moved in either direction from Nanaimo.
As a side note that may not be well known, the C.N.R. was granted the timber and mineral rights for 10 miles on either side of the right-of-way to provide the rail service for Vancouver Island in perpetuity. We need to hound our politicians to live up to their responsibilities and provide alternatives for the residents of Vancouver Island.
