Ladysmith Secondary School’s senior boys’ and girls’ basketball teams are now switching to playoff mode.

The Ladysmith 49ers hoops teams closed out their regular-season schedules with games against the Kwalikum Kondors on Tuesday, Jan. 30, at the LSS gym.

The senior girls played hard down the stretch to close the gap, but were eventually defeated 49-41. Mercedez Johnson led the 49ers with 23 points.

The senior girls will play in the North Island championships from Feb. 8-10 at Kwalikum Secondary School, and will try for a top-five finish to advance to Island championships.

Ladysmith’s senior boys, meanwhile, will have an extra week to prepare before their North Island tourney Feb. 15-17, also at Kwalikum.
