Madeline Tremblay, who was Ladysmith’s Ambassador in 2011-12, was selected as one of three B.C. 2016 Ambassadors at a gala event in Merritt Aug. 12 and 13.

Tremblay said being Ladysmith’s Ambassador “changed my life completely” and she’s hopeful that having a B.C. crown will also make a big difference for her and her two colleagues.

The focus of the program is on respecting yourself and other people, and having the poise and confidence to represent yourself and your values in the communities and at the events you participate in.

“Its’ definitely not a beauty pageant in any sense of the word,” she said. “That’s one of my favorite things about the program, it’s about you and who you are.”

Since graduating from secondary school and passing along the Ladysmith crown to her successor, Tremblay has earned a Bachelor of Science degree. She’s hoping to be accepted as a medical student when she resumes her studies in 2017.

In the meantime, she is looking forward to fulfilling her provincial Ambassador’s duties. “For me it works out very well having that time off.”

Her crowning was achieved with honours – Tremblay took top spot in six of eight award categories, including her favorite, the People’s Choice award, which was based on the level of support she received from the public.

“The support I received from so many people was really important for me,” she said, thanking the people of Ladysmith for taking time to boost her in the standings.

“It really made me proud of our community spirit.”

Shooting for the ambassadorships in both Ladysmith and B.C. has taught her a lot of things, Tremblay said, but the most important is having the conviction to go for something when you really believe in it.

“Anything like that you can do to improve yourself, you should do it,” she said.

If you participate in community events and activities, you will likely see Tremblay around. Part of the role is attending events each month, including pageants throughout the province and events like Ladysmith Days and the annual Ladysmith Light Up Parade.
