A local man would like to make Ladysmith known as the “pumpkin carving capital of Vancouver Island” by showcasing community members’ jack-o-lanterns. Ron Dale wanted to run a pumpkin carving contest in schools this year, but he said COVID-19 got in the way of the plan.

“When I go to visit the Dogwood dip after Halloween each year, there are some marvellous creations and I am thinking that those should be noted,” he said. He wondered how the town could use the artistic creations to promote the community.

Dale wants people to share photos of their favourite pumpkins they carved this year so they can be showcased in The Ladysmith Chronicle. Anyone who would like to participate can send a photo to him at radale@telus.net. Submissions may be published in print and/or on the Chronicle’s website.
