Oceanview Community Church will postpone their upcoming Tech Wise Family Event due to concerns around COVID-19.

Pastor Darin Phillips said the event will be held in the fall instead. The decision came as the B.C. government suggested restricting gatherings of 250 or more people.

“We just figured it was way too much work to just have it go to waste,” Phillips said.

Oceanview Community Church will hold a regular service this Sunday, March 15. The next three consecutive Sundays, worship service will be live-streamed through Facebook and Youtube.

“People can watch at home and enjoy the experience there,” Phillips said. “There will basically be 10 of us in an empty auditorium. I’ll be preaching, the team will be doing the music and everything.”

Philips said health minister Adrian Dix and provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry made a special request that faith communities work to both limit the spread of COVID-19 by live-streaming services, and work to calm anxiety around the virus.

“We can rise to that call, and try to do those two things,” Phillips said.

Anyone with further questions is encouraged to contact the Oceanview Community Church office.
