After the fire at the Ladysmith Maritime Society docks in January, it became apparent access needed to be addressed. Now council has approved that $40,000 be included into the 2011 budgeting process to install a second road egress down to the docks.Currently there is only one entrance to the marina and it goes through privately owned land.Dave Ehrismann, executive director at the maritime society, said he was impressed by the hard work and dedication of all the crews on the night of the fatal fire, but said it showed the importance of another road.“The fire highlighted the need for another access,” he said. The second road, which will be much like the first, will be carved into the north side of the hill, creating a one-way, drive-through for traffic.Ehrismann, said the new road might also help incorporate some new parking at the marina.
